Social Networking is all about distinguishing yourself from others. Due to the absence of physical contact with others and the amazing ability to reach out to a much broader and diverse group of potential recipients of your product or service, it becomes more clear each day that to be successful in networking you must devote much more time to promoting you and your knowledge of your area of expertise.
It is much easier to ‘meet’ others from around the globe than ever before. Fill in your name, upload a photo and fill out a short bio and instantly you are connected to other fellow humans on all the continents on Earth: a very impressive accomplishment for such little effort. And yet it is done repeatedly every day.
The sincerity, truthfulness and legality of your message is left to the imagination of the reader. There is no fact checking, background checking, authenticity verification and the ‘consumer’ is advised to use their best efforts to protect themselves. That said, we are adults and meet with various members of society on a continuing basis, we are sales people and our duties involve interaction with other people. We don’t ask for personal background information when meeting them at the office or at open houses. We just trust the normal social values and customs will prevail and everyone will go home happy.
Now with the innovations and technological breakthroughs of the internet and social networks we must address the fact that there is no one set of laws, or customs or common assumptions of how to interact. When doing real estate transactions between states and between countries and cultures, the only real beginnings are those given when addressing others, you want to be polite and courteous. Once that is done, what do you really know of the person you are dealing with in a business transaction?
This is another reason to begin a plan as to how to blog. You must become responsible and the force of action to get YOU out to the world and be known for who you are. NO ONE ELSE can do this for you. The world must become familiar with you and your depth of knowledge. The world must judge your opinions and your truthfulness and general business sense. There is potential to influence millions of dollars worth of trade, and hundreds of people, maybe more, with your presence here on a social networking site.
We are working hard at eRealEstate.com to help you connect with others, find valuable content posted by other members, and provide recognition to those who give their time and knowledge freely to others. If you have an idea of how to improve the site please let us know.
As for you – to be an ever increasing asset both to your profession and to this site you must participate and more importantly consistently participate so that others will begin to look for your opinions and follow your contributions to the site of your knowledge. The more you are connected in the readers mind to a particular geographical area or area of expertise the better your chance of getting referrals and a following of readers.
